1 Xps Board Under Laminate Flooring

I need some advice.

I am installing mannington restoration laminate in our walk out basement. And then i thought of a 3rd option. Put down 1 4 ply on top of the current subfloor. After removing the carpet and putting down the engineered floor we ll be 1 4 short of the hardwood.
