I m having trouble with my power steering on my 2004 wrx.
Wrx power steering rack leak.
The subaru service manual that i found online states for this.
Looks like this is a problem with wrx s and sti s.
This rack will bolt directly in to any 2008 2014 wrx or sti.
Everybody just replaces the entire rack but i wanted to see if i could fix it with.
I was told the power steering rack needs to be replaced 1200.
We take 5 8 off each inner and outer it.
One of the most common issues on the impreza is a leaking steering rack.
Ps pulley stops turning.
Had the lines replaced and was ok until a week or so ago.
A little troubleshooting and i discovered the source the leak is originating from the input shaft coming into the rack and pinion gearbox.
Sometimes on start sometimes when letting off the throttle sometimes when turn hard to either side.
Power steering pump locks up and results in belt squeal.
If it is leaking power steering fluid then you ll find yourself finding it hard to steer in no time if you don t keep filling it up.
On narrow body 2008 2010 wrx models you will have to shorten the tie rod ends.

Noticed more fluid leaking so took it to the dealership yesterday.
The 2015 sti has the quickest steering ratio of any subaru product to date it s 13 1 compared to 15 1 on older wrx and sti models.
I believe i ve located the leak and want opinions on what could be the culprit.
Power steering sometimes stops working without the belt squeal.
